A comprehensive metabolic assessment from Freedom Functional Medicine can help you get to the root of the medical concerns that you’ve been experiencing. Our comprehensive metabolic assessment is used to check a number of body functions and processes. Liver and kidney health, blood sugar and protein levels, fluid and electrolyte balance, acid and base balance and metabolism can all be checked via our assessment. Here is everything you need to know about our comprehensive metabolic assessment:

What is Our Comprehensive Metabolic Assessment?

drawing blood

The comprehensive metabolic assessment from Freedom Functional Medicine evaluates nutritional blood chemistries by checking more than 60 different markers found in the blood! This test measures markers like glucose, calcium, total protein and more. Our comprehensive metabolic assessment includes both a GI Effects Stool Test and a DUTCH Test for comprehensive hormones.

This package includes a 60-minute initial intake visit. Once the results have returned, we’ll meet again to discuss the results of the labs during a 30-minute follow-up appointment.

Tests Performed in Our Comprehensive Metabolic Assessment

In addition to checking glucose, calcium and total protein, our comprehensive metabolic assessment analyzes waste products in the blood like bilirubin, which comes from the breakdown of red blood cells and is removed by the liver, and blood urea nitrogen (BUN), a byproduct that your kidneys help remove. It also measures creatinine, a byproduct of muscle activity, and albumin, a protein made by the liver that transports vital substances through the bloodstream.

This metabolic assessment analyzes electrolytes in the body that are responsible for controlling nerve and muscle function and maintaining the correct pH balance in the blood. Electrolytes (sodium, potassium, bicarbonate & chloride) are minerals that carry an electric charge when dissolved in a liquid.

Our comprehensive metabolic assessment measures liver enzymes to check on the function of this important organ. Enzymes are substances that function as a catalyst, helping to allow certain body processes. The specific enzymes analyzed include alkaline phosphatase (ALP), alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST).

The GI Effects Stool Test is the most comprehensive stool test for optimal clinical utility. This assessment uses a combination of PCR, culture and microscopic testing methods to assess gut health and find what exactly is causing your gastrointestinal issues.

The DUTCH (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones) Test is a group of validated tests that provide a complete evaluation of sex and adrenal hormones, including metabolites. This test can be used to provide insight into nutritional deficiencies, oxidative stress, gut dysbiosis, melatonin, neuroinflammation and more.
